TERREBONNE PARISH - A deputy has been arrested and fired after he inappropriately touched a woman who had called the sheriff's office about a disturbance Tuesday night.

According to Sheriff Jerry Larpenter, the female victim called about a disturbance and Deputy Marlin Meeks responded.

Larpenter said the victim alleged that while questioning her about the complaint, he touched her in an inappropriate manner and that she denied his advances.

The sheriff's office said Meeks was questioned about the incident and admitted to the inappropriate touching. He was relieved of his duty Wednesday night and arrested and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex Thursday one one count of sexual battery.

Meeks was a three-year veteran assigned to the patrol division and had no previous complaints, according to the sheriff's office.
