HOUMA, La. — A Houma man was killed Tuesday after being ejected from a motorcycle he lost control of, the Louisiana State Police said.
Jarred Dupre, 20, of Houma was driving his 2009 Suzuki on La. Hwy. 24. He had been stopped at a red light, authorities said, when he turned onto La. 24 and quickly accelerated.
He lost control of the motorcycle and ran off the roadway, State Police said. Dupre, still on the motorcycle, traveled another 500 feet before hitting a mail box, ejecting him as the bike tumbled, State Police said.
According to authorities, Dupre was wearing a U.S. Department of Transportation cleared helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said speed and “lack of riding knowledge” might have played a part in the wreck while also saying they don’t suspect alcohol played a part in the crash. Toxicology tests are pending.
