HOUMA, La – A 32-year-old motorcyclist died Tuesday when he crossed the centerline on LA 316 and struck a vehicle, authorities said.
Around 6 p.m., Shane Alexander was coming out of a right hand curve in the roadway on his 2003 Kawasaki KX250 and was crossing the centerline into the southbound lane when he veered into the left front fender of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south, according to State Police Troop Evan Harrell.
Alexander was thrown from his off-road bike upon impact and later transported to Terrebonne General Hospital, Harrell said.
Alexander, who was not wearing a legally approved helmet, was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
Investigators looking into the accident said alcohol impairment is not suspected. The driver, Tony Martin of Bourg, was cleared of any alcohol involvement following a breath test.
The 46-year-old Martin was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash.
