HOUMA, La. -- A worker at Oil States was killed after a structure collapsed on him Monday at a plant on Mulberry Road, according to Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois.
Timothy James Morvant, 52, of Houma, was fatally injured at the Oil States plant around 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to Bourgeois. He later died at a hospital in Baton Rouge after receiving treatment at Terrebonne General Medical Center.
Morvant was working in the fabrication shop and was "tacking a bearing block on a winch wall (heavy metal) and the structure collapsed on top of him," said a statement from Bourgeois.
When deputies arrived at the factory, emergency responders were giving Morvant medical assistance, said Bourgeois.
A crane had to be used to free Morvant after the structure collapsed on him, said Bourgeois. Morvant was a long-time employee of Oil States.
