HOUMA, La. – A 70-year-old Montegut woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash late Tuesday, according to State Police, and driver who caused the crashed was charged with driving a stolen car and vehicular homicide.
Around 11:30 p.m., Lindy Bascle was killed in the crash after a vehicle attempted to pass in no passing zone on LA 659, just north of LA 3087 in Terrebonne Parish, according to State Police.
A car driven by Gregory Poindexter, 32, of Houma, attempted to pass in a no passing zone, hitting two vehicles, including Bascle’s car who was driving in the opposite direction. She was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene. A second woman, Terri McKever, 18, of Houma, suffered minor injuries. Poindexter also suffered minor injuries, according to State Police.
It was later determined that Poindexter was driving a stolen car taken from the Blue Diamond Lounge in Houma, according to State Police. Alcohol use by Poindexter is suspected by police with results from toxicology tests pending from the State Police Crime Lab.
Poindexter was booked and charged with vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular negligent injuring, passing in a no passing zone, no seat belt and no driver’s license. Poindexter was also charged by the Houma Police for one count of theft of a motor vehicle, according to State Police.
