A 29-year-old Golden Meadow man was found dead Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle into a bayou along LA 56 in Cocodrie, police said.

Shawn Dardar was traveling south on LA 56 at an unknown time Sunday morning when his vehicle veered off the road, struck a fence pole, a concrete barrier protecting gasoline storage tanks and three support pilings at Boudreaux's Marina located at 8250 LA 56 before hitting the water.

Louisiana State Police were called by the owner of Boudreaux's Marina shortly before 6 a.m., to report that a vehicle had damaged his property and that the gas tanks on his property were leaking fuel. The fuel tanks were sealed and the spilled fuel was cleaned up.

The Terrebonne Sheriff's Office Water Patrol located Dardar's submerged vehicle. Dardar was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Cornoner's Office.

Toxicology reports on the victim are pending and the crash is still under investigation.
