The bodies of two Thibodaux residents were found in a local motel this morning, police said.
A housekeeper found Rachel Bourgeois, 33, 221 Midway St., and a man, whose name police have yet to release, in Room 119. They each had a gunshot wound, police said.
Witnesses at the Economy Inn, 1111 St. Mary St. in Thibodaux, said they heard the "pop" of a gunshot between 7 and 9 a.m., Thibodaux Police said.
Authorities are withholding the man's name until his family is notified.
The door to their room was cracked open, said the housekeeper who found them, Maxine Londo, 36. She thought they had gone, and went inside to get their sheets and towels.
Londo said she saw both people stretched across the bed, ran out and told her manager. She said she was "shaking" as she ran.
Since he's worked here since 2008, manager Brij Maisuria said there has never been a murder at the motel.
"Nothing like this has every happened here," he said. His first reaction when Londo told him was "unbelievable shock," he said.
The slain man had worked with Jeffrey Construction and was doing work on the Pizza Hut down the street, Maisuria said. He checked in May 4.
An investigation is continuing, police said.
