ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. – A teacher at a Luling middle school has been arrested on child molestation and indecent behavior charges, officials with the school system and sheriff’s office said.
Troy Quinn, 41, a health and physical education teacher at R.K. Smith Middle School, was arrested Friday. He faces three counts of molestation and one count of indecent behavior with a 13-year-old girl, said Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the illegal behavior with the student allegedly happened between February and May of this year.
Quinn was arrested Friday at his home in Gonzales. An e-mail was sent to parents late Sunday with news of Quinn’s arrest.
Regina McMillan, a spokeswoman for St. Charles Parish Public Schools, confirmed that Quinn had been arrested, but offered few other details.
She said he was not at the school on Monday, and an internal investigation was underway, which would determine his future status. She referred all other questions to the sheriff’s office.
McMillan could not say how long Quinn had been employed by the school system.
