LAFOURCHE, La. -- A blowout at an oil rig outside of Golden Meadow closed a highway for part of the morning as crews worked to clean up the spill.
Officials from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office say the blowout is under control.
About a 400 foot section of Highway 3235 was covered with oil, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Sgt. Lesley Hill, closing all four lanes of the road.
No one was injured and no homes are believed to have been impacted. There is also no evacuation.
Anyone needing to travel south of Golden Meadow had to use Hwy 1 until the road reopened shortly before noon.
