A Houma man is dead after being gunned down in a trailer Tuesday night, police said, and the shooter or shooters are now being sought.

Investigators have released few details but said the shooting happened at 133 Whispering Oaks Court, a gravel road and small trailer park off East Main Street. The victim, whose name has not been officially released, was found lying on the floor, dead of at least one gunshot wound.

Family and neighbors at the scene identified the victim as Ron Pierre, 40, of Houma.

The shooting happened at about 8:30 p.m. and police said they received two phone calls about the incident, one after hearing the shots and a second to say that the victim was hit.

Neighbors said they heard three shots come from the trailer.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. Police Lt. Dana Coleman said no suspects have been detained and that the investigation is in its "infant stages." An autopsy will most likely be performed on Wednesday, Coleman said.

Neighbors said Pierre lived in the east Houma trailer along with another man.

Houma Police, as well as the Terrebonne Coroner's Office, the Terrebonne Sheriff's Office and investigators from the Terrebonne District Attorney's Office remained on scene for several hours Tuesday night. Witnesses were taken to the police department to be interviewed.

Police taped off the area about 50 feet from the house as they investigated. Pierre's family and close friends gathered just inside the area, holding one another and wiping away tears as they watched the investigators work. A few neighbors also gathered to watch.

A loved one of Pierre's said to pray for the family and declined further comment.

This is the first homicide in Terrebonne Parish this year.
