A Friday morning crash killed one and injured six others in Larose, according to Louisiana State Police Spokesperson Evan Harrell.
Around 11:30 a.m. Friday, Carin Penida-Ruiz, 42, was driving a Nissan Frontier west on La. 657 at the intersection with La. 3235, Harrell said.
Ruiz, who is from Gretna, stopped at the intersection, but was struck by a Chevrolet 2500 truck driven by Troy Griffin, 22 of Golden Meadow as he crossed the highway.
The impact threw the Frontier driven by Ruiz off the road where it turned on its side and struck a power pole, according to Harrell.
Ruiz and four other passengers were taken to to local hospitals with moderate injuries, Harrell said.
One of the Frontier's passengers, Sandra Martinez-Montoya was partially ejected during the crash and died at Lady of the Sea Hospital. She was not wearing a seatbelt, Harrell noted.
Griffin was treated for minor injuries.
Alcohol use isn't known at the time. Blood samples were taken from both drivers and the accident is still under investigation, Harrell said.
