RACELAND, La. -- Louisiana State Police are investigating an accident in Raceland that left a pedestrian dead Saturday evening.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Hwy. 1 north of US 90.

According to police, Kenneth Hughes, 55, tried to cross the highway as a Ford F-150 was approaching.

The Ford, driven by 19-year-old Candy Baudoin, collided with Hughes. Police pronounced him dead on the scene. Baudoin, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

Police say Hughes was wearing dark clothing in a dimly lit area.

Raceland, LA- Shortly before 7 PM yesterday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed after he walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 1 in Raceland, LA.

Alcohol use and driver impairment are not suspected factors in the crash, but a toxicology report is pending for Hughes.
