GALLIANO, La. - A 44-year-old woman who deputies say was running a meth lab out of her van, was arrested Saturday night when she locked herself out of the van.
According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre, deputies responded to a call of a woman who was locked out of her vehicle at a truck stop and who apparently didn't want police to be called.
Deputies arriving on the scene said they found a woman who appeared to be impaired. Webre said that when deputies questioned Stacey Stevens, she told them there was a bottle inside in which Methamphetamine was being produced.
Webre said members of the Lafourche Parish Combined Meth Lab Response Team arrived and began processing the scene. Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force Agents discovered the mobile meth lab inside the vehicle. With the assistance of fellow Meth Lab Response Team personnel from the Lafourche Parish Government Office of Emergency Preparedness and Lafourche Parish Fire District #3,
Agents successfully removed the cooking vessel from the vehicle and neutralized the lab. Lafourche Ambulance District #1 was also at the scene in case of emergency due to the highly volatile substances present and its close proximity to fuel pumps.
Stevens was placed under arrest and charged with creation and operation of a clandestine lab for unlawful manufacture of a controlled, dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without a license.
