Several students got into a fight at South Terrebonne High School this afternoon, and the school went on lockdown to keep things from escalating, officials said.
Three minors and two adult students were arrested after the incident, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said. Two girls started the fight, then male students jumped in.
A Terrebonne sheriff's deputy at the scene tased an 18-year-old student after the student threw the deputy off him when he tried to subdue him, Larpenter said.
Someone also broke the glass in the principal's door, Larpenter said.
Deputies were "trying to stop this development from turning into a riot," Larpenter said.
"The situation was such that we wanted to get everyone out of there before something serious happened," Superintendent Phillip Martin said.
The fight started at the end of third hour, the last period of the day, Martin said.
