A Houma Junior High School brought a BB gun to school on Tuesday, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed. The student told a resource officer at the school that he had the BB gun with him. A subsequent search revealed that he did, in fact, possess the BB gun, authorities said.
It was the second time in less than a week that a student was caught with a gun in a Terrebonne Parish school. Last Thursday a 9-year-old boy at Village East Elementary fired a BB gun at a classmate. That child was not charged with a crime in Thursday's incident and it is unknown whether or not the Houma Junior High student will be charged in this case.
The incident came as another shock to the Houma Junior High community, which is still mourning the death of 14-year-old John Farmer, who died in an ATV accident on Sunday.
"We are all on edge here," one parent said. "This is the last thing we need right now because we are all going crazy."
