A Thibodaux man was arrested Tuesday after robbing a Raceland convenience store of about $200 cash, two packs of cigarettes and gum, Lafourche Sheriff's Office said.
Derrek Delcambre, 33, 105 Lilac St., is accused of using a handgun to rob Cheap Smokes, 4559 La. 1, shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said.
Deputies said they apprehended him in a nearby residential neighborhood after a short foot pursuit. He was found to have $187 in cash, a pack of cigarettes and gum in his possession. The second pack of cigarettes and the handgun were located just north of the convenience store.
Detectives later learned the Delcambre used about $30 of the stolen cash at a video poker machine at a nearby casino.
He was initially transported to the Criminal Operations Center in Lockport for questioning, deputies said. At one point he stood up, grabbed the cash he got in the robbery and attempted to flee on foot inside the center but was apprehended again.
He was taken to the Lafourche Parish jail where he was booked on charges of armed robbery, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and simple escape. He is being held on a $107,000 bond.
