THIBODAUX, La. — Thibodaux Police arrested five people after two allegedly beat a pregnant woman before two others fled as authorities arrived to break up the dispute, officials said Monday.
Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of People Street in Thibodaux after a pregnant woman was allegedly attacked by Laquita Duncan, 22, and 30-year-old Natasha Anderson, said David Melancon, Thibodaux Police’s public information officer.
As police arrived, Carl Jones and Dashawna Deville fled in a Pontiac Grand Am, leading police on a chase through town. Jones, who was driving, rammed a police cruiser and then attempted to flee on foot.
He was chased down while Deville surrendered quickly, Melancon said.
Police found 308 grams of marijuana inside the Grand Am, which Jones said was his, Melancon said.
The pregnant woman was taken to Thibodaux Medical Center complaining of abdominal pains.
Jones, 27, was charged with disturbing the peace, resisting an officer, aggravated flight of an officer, possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He also had a warrant issued for violation of parole and is being held on a $40,100 bond.
Deville, Anderson and Duncan all were arrested and charged with simple battery.
Additionally, Shanice Jones, 24, was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace after showing up at the scene of the fight, yelling and cursing.
