A 33-year-old Houma woman broke into her ex-boyfriend’s shed Friday and tried to set his house on fire, police said.

Kelly Ann Smith, 117 Vikki Lane, was caught on video entering the Hialeah Avenue shed and walking toward the home in the 200 block, Houma Police Lt. Dana Coleman said.

The video allegedly shows Smith approaching an open window and running away as smoke rises behind her. The couple had recently broken up, Coleman said.

Smith’s ex-boyfriend was working offshore, but his 20-year-old daughter noticed an open window and Smith’s car in the driveway, Coleman said.

Responding officers discovered the curtain and nearby floor had been charred.

Smith is charged with simple burglary and simple arson. She was booked into the Terrebonne Parish jail.
