NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jefferson Parish is getting $559,000 in federal grants for replacing playground contents damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Friday that the grants will pay for athletic equipment and supplies, office and kitchen equipment and parks and recreational equipment and supplies.
Jefferson Parish President John Young said in a statement that the grant will benefit eight of the parish's playgrounds.
FEMA says it has provided nearly $530 million for recovery work throughout Jefferson Parish following the 2005 hurricane.
