BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Taxpayers who don't direct deposit their refunds will again be able to get paper check refunds, rather than debit cards.

The Louisiana House gave final passage Friday with a unanimous vote to a bill that will prohibit Louisiana's revenue department from requiring people who don't use direct deposit to get their tax refunds on pre-paid Chase Visa cards.

Revenue department officials introduced the debit cards as a cost-saving measure, saying that getting rid of the paper checks saved money. Lawmakers say they received complaints from people who don't understand how to use the cards or were charged fees when they do.

The measure by Jonesboro Rep. Jim Fannin heads to the governor's desk. It will expire after the 2015 tax year.
