ARABI, La. — A teenager was killed in St. Bernard Parish when he was hit by an oncoming car on Louisiana Hwy. 39, State Police said.
Chase Naquin, 17, was riding his bike Monday on La. 39 near Deer Creek Street heading westward against traffic on the shoulder of the road, State Police public information officer Melissa Matey said.
Naquin then turned into the eastbound lanes, where 30-year-old Katy Alfonso hit him with her Ford Fusion, Matey said.
He was taken to LSU Public Hospital’s Level 1 trauma center where he was pronounced dead hours later.
The crash is under investigation, though Matey said speed and impairment aren’t considered factors in the accident.
