Nearly 200 teachers have been laid off from the Jefferson Parish school system in a move system officials said was necessary to pare $30 million from the upcoming budget.
Jeff Nowakowski, a spokesman for the school system, said that along with teachers, the ‘reduction in force’ included job losses in the central office and school administration.
196 teachers received pink slips, Nowakowski said, in addition to another 246 teachers who have been shifted to other jobs within the system or relocated to other school campuses.
A notice from the school system said the reduction was due to “economic constraints.”
