AMITE, La. (AP) — A member of the Tangipahoa Parish School Board wants board members to reconsider a ban on corporal punishment.

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/16bOQxT ) that Gail Pittman-McDaniel wants the prohibition to be considered by the board's policy committee.

Pittman-McDaniel says parents, teachers and principals have asked her why parish schools no longer allow spanking.

The board agreed this past week to refer the punishment policy to the committee.
