DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) — Hancock County sheriff's Chief Deputy Don Bass says a tire blowout is believed to have caused a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 that left eight people injured, two of them critically.

Bass tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1vrL3Xd ) a Ford Excursion with a Texas license plate was in the left lane of I-10 westbound Saturday when one of the tires apparently blew, and the vehicle crossed the right lane before it went up an embankment and flipped several times, ejecting three of the occupants.

Bass was not sure if the occupants were all family members.

He says the two critically-injured occupants, one of them a minor, were airlifted from the scene to a Mobile hospital for treatment.

The names of those injured have not been released.
