MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) — A 13-year-old has died after his four-wheeler, which was being towed, veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle in Lauderdale County.
Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says Samuel Johnson of Clarkdale was pronounced died Tuesday at a Meridian hospital.
Calhoun says Johnson's ATV was being towed by friends after it had broken down. It was attached to a Jeep by a winch cable.
He says Johnson was riding on the four-wheeler behind the Jeep. Calhoun says when the Jeep slowed to avoid a pickup truck on a narrow road, the four-wheeler swerved into oncoming traffic.
Calhoun says the four-wheeler collided with the front driver's side of the pickup truck.
He says the driver of the pickup was also taken to the hospital for injuries that were non-life threatening.
