WACO, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors have rested their case against a former Waco-area minister accused of killing his wife, whose death initially was ruled a suicide.
The last prosecution witness Tuesday was a medical examiner who said an abrasion on Kari Baker's nose was consistent with an injury from being smothered.
Matt Baker's ex-mistress Vanessa Bulls was the day's key witness, testifying that he drugged his wife and smothered her with a pillow.
The defense is to start presenting evidence Wednesday. Baker's attorney Guy James Gray told the McLennan County jury last week that Kari Baker's death only became a murder case after authorities learned of her husband's affair.
Baker, who faces up to life in prison if convicted, has maintained his wife committed suicide because of severe depression.
