MONROE, La. (AP) — Excitement over the New Orleans Saints' getting into the Super Bowl isn't just a south Louisiana phenomenon. More than 1,500 people showed up to rally for the team in the Monroe Civic Center.
Thursday's rally featured loud music celebrating the Saints' best season in team history and lots of "Who dat!" cheers.
Mayor Jamie Mayo read a proclamation declaring Thursday "Who Dat Nation Day" in Monroe.
Fans young and old filled the Civic Center arena, either getting their first taste of Saints fever or experiencing the culmination of a lifetime of fanhood.
Fred Oliveaux, who was born in Winnsboro and raised in Monroe, brought his 8-year-old daughter, Katie. He says he's been waiting all his life for the Saints to make the NFL championship game.
