NEW ORLEANS – The ferry from Algiers Point to Canal Street will have extended hours for Carnival’s final weekend through Mardi Gras Day, the RTA announced Friday.
Beginning next Friday, February 28, the first ferry in the morning will leave Algiers Point at 6 a.m. and the last one returning to the west bank will depart Canal Street at 12:15 a.m.
Riders traveling in the opposite direction will find the first ferry departing Canal St. at 6:15 a.m and the last one returning from Algiers at midnight.
Starting on Saturday, March 1, an additional ferry will run the route from 3 pm until midnight.
Fares, which must come in exact change, will be $2 for pedestrians each way, $1 for seniors, disabled and Medicare recipients with an ID or reduced fare card. Children under 2 years of age are free. Previously it was said that cars would be $2 for the driver and $1 for each passenger.

Outside of the special Mardi Gras weekend schedule – on Monday through Thursday, the Algiers first ferry will depart each morning at 7:15 a.m. and the final ferry from Canal St. to the west bank will be at 6:30 p.m. Going in the opposite direction, the first boat leaving Canal St. in the morning will be at 7:30 a.m. and the final departure from Algiers each day will be 6:15 p.m.
There are longer hours on Friday with the same morning start times but end of day departures at 8 p.m. from Canal to Algiers and at 7:45 p.m. from Algiers to Canal St.
On Saturday and Sunday, the first boat will launch from Algiers at 10:45 a.m. The first one from Canal Street at 11 a.m. On Saturdays, the final boat from Algiers to Canal Street will roll at 7:45 p.m. and the final Canal St. to Algiers boat will be at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the final boat from Algiers to Canal Street will depart at 5:45 p.m. with the final boat leaving Canal Street to Algiers at 6 p.m.
