METAIRIE, La. - The krewe of Argus is adding an Oscar nominee and some of her co-stars to its celebrity lineup for its Fat Tuesday parade, the krewe announced.
Academy Award-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis, 9, will ride in Argus with co-stars Dwight Henry, Lowell Landes and Jovan Hathaway from the award-winning film “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” the krewe announced.
Also riding as grand marshals will be “minions” from the upcoming animated film “Despicable Me 2,” the sequel to the 2010 movie. The new film is set to be released in July, featuring the voice talents of Steve Carell, Al Pacino, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove and Kristen Wiig.
"Beasts" breakout star Wallis is the youngest ever actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for best actress. The film was shot on location in south Louisiana and is also nominated for best picture.
“This is an exciting time for Hollywood South and Argus is honored to celebrate the local talent from the cast of Beasts and their award winning performances, by having them ride with us Mardi Gras Day”, said Rob DeViney, co-captain of the Krewe of Argus. “To have the Minions from "Despicable Me 2" will add just as much excitement to the day," said DeViney, “If they behave.”
Argus was founded in 1972 and parades Mardi Gras day in Jefferson Parish on the traditional Veterans Blvd. route.
