NEW ORLEANS -- Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport -- a gateway for Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, major sporting events and business conventions -- slid behind numerous peers in traveler satisfaction between 2008 and 2010.

That's according to a survey by J.D. Power & Associates.

Two years ago, the Kenner airport was ranked fourth among 20 small airports -- those handling fewer than 10 million passengers per year. In the 2010 survey, the airport ranked 23rd out of 24 in customer satisfaction.

Airport and tourism officials say many portions of a current $350 million capital improvements program are aimed at increasing flier service.
