NEW ORLEANS - After apologizing once more for the mislabeling of human embryos at a fertility clinic, Dr. Patrick Quinlan said that an independent audit confirmed that one embroyologist’s work was not keeping with acceptable standards at Ochsner Health System. Quilan, the chief executive officer of Ochsner Health System, said the work is troubling according to Ochsner. He added that there was no plan to reopen the center. Quilan added that errors of judgment in oversight at the center were found by the audit. Quinlan says that problem makes it impossible to use frozen embryos for 15 patients. He also says they're suggesting that all of their patients -- 53 couples -- have their embryos genetically tested before implanting any. He says no problems were detected in the vast majority of the center's frozen embryos In September, an embryo mix-up forced Ochsner Health System to suspend its in vitro fertilization program in Elmwood. Quinlan called the announcement "difficult and personal" for Ochsner and its patients. He said an internal audit brought into question, the overall reliability of the IVF program.
