NEW ORLEANS -- A federal judge sentenced a former bank manager to almost two years of prison time for embezzling over $1 million over a period of several years.
Judge Ivan Lemelle ruled Wednesday that 41-year-old Hong Nguyen will have to pay back $1.09 million to Capital One Bank in restitution. He sentenced her to 21 months in prison and three years of supervised release afterwards..
According to the prosecution, Nguyen was an assistant manager in charge of a Capital One Bank branch in New Orleans, and over the course of several years, she would cash out debit tickets and cashier's checks draw from the lines of credit of customer's accounts. She would then hide the documents by debiting other credit accounts, prosecutors say.
Prosecutors say Nguyen stole $1.09 million over the time period.
