BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Police say a Baton Rouge toddler was struck by a car and killed after she wandered into a street.
The accident occurred around 8:35 p.m. Sunday.
Sgt. Don Kelly says 1-year-old Nubia Hernandez was playing with several children in a fenced backyard when she made her way out of the yard through a gate.
Kelly said the girl walked unnoticed to the front of the home and eventually into the street.
He says the child was struck by a car driven by a 25-year-old Baton Rouge man.
The toddler was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
