NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans City Council passed an ordinance on Thursday to extend school zone hours for all school districts in the parish.
Right now, school zone hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the morning and from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Under the new ordinance the times will change from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
A decision will be made at a later date on when the ordinance will go into effect.
The council made the change with the support of school leaders to enhance safety.
