NEW ORLEANS -- Construction for a sprawling Costco on Carrollton Avenue looks ready to go ahead after the City Council approved the plans for the wholesale, warehouse store.
The plans were passed uniamously by the council.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu showed up at Council Chambers unannounced to throw his support behind the project, and asked the council not to delay to the project. Landrieu said he felt the approval by the council of the project shows "New Orleans is open for business."
The store will occupy the vacant site of the former Carrollton Shopping Center, across South Carrollton Avenue from Xavier University, and the company plans to build a new 148,000 square foot warehouse on the site.
