NEW ORLEANS – A man who was on death row after a conviction for killing five teens in a car in Central City in 2006 is one step closer to getting a new trial after the Louisiana Supreme Court denied an appeal by the New Orleans District Attorney.
Michael Anderson was awarded a new trial by Judge Lynda Van Davis earlier this year after she said that an informant was given ‘the deal of the century’ to testify against Anderson and that details of the deal were not provided to the defense.
Friday the Supreme Court denied Cannizzaro’s appeal against that ruling.
A spokesman for the DA’s office said that they are disappointed, but will re-try Anderson.
