NEW ORLEANS - With less than 24 hours before a major election in New Orleans, the city's neutral ground would normally be littered with campaign signs.

That is not the case leading up to Saturday's primary.

"You see a lot of who dat signs, but you don't see a lot of Landrieu or Georges or Henry or other signs," said WWL-TV Political Analyst Clancy DuBos. "I think it's a sign of the times."

A sign of the times that voters just aren't into this election which includes important races for mayor and city council.

"Everybody's buzzing about the Saints," said DuBos. "That's understandable. We're going to have a mayoral election again in 4 years, but we waited 43 years for the Saints to get to the Super Bowl."

Dubos says the fact voters are not focusing on the election, benefits the front-runners.

"Because it means that people probably aren't changing the minds," said DuBos. "They're going to vote. I don't think turnout will be adversely effected. But, I think you won't see a lot of last minute changing among the voters. I think the minds were made up two weeks ago. Once the Saints got in the Super Bowl, people figured well I know who I'm voting for, let me focus on the Saints."

Meanwhile, election officials spent the day preparing for the races. They expect all of the voting machines and commissioners to be in place before 6 a.m. when the polls open.

They recommend voters check out a sample ballots before heading into the voting booth.

"Each precinct is supplied with a sample ballot," said election supervisor Jeanine Aubry. "They post it right outside the precinct or in the building. We suggest that people take a look at it. Make some choices before they go in. They are limited to within three minutes in the voting machine."

Even with all the distractions, turnout is still expected to be in the 40 to 50 percent range.

According to the Orleans Clerk of Courts Office, there are a couple of last minute changes in polling places.

The firehouse in the 2500 block of General DeGaulle in Algiers is being renovated.

So Ward 15, Precinct 13a voters will now cast ballots at the Pearly Ellioe Head Start building at 3029 Wall Boulevard.
In Uptown, Ward 14, Precinct 13a, those who normally vote at Tulane's University Center will now vote at the Holy Name of Jesus School at 6325 Cromwell Place.

its mardi gras, saints are gonna win the superbowl, no one wants to see signs on the street and really dont pay attention to them anyway, they are a waste of time. you will be lucky if 30% vote, i wonder how may of the people that are in miami voted already? eventhough this is a very important race, most people are not focused on it, should have put voting machines outside of the markets, they will be packed tomorrow with people getting food for the game sunday and the parades tomorrow. i say 30% turn out tomorrow, but i hope i am wrong and its a lot higher than that cuz this is important and should be a priority. GEAUX SAINTS WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS !!!! Now here we are- according to Nagin and Chief Riley- we have a shadow[read white folk] government that has already taken over City Hall who's been circumventing every good thing they'd been doing for the good of the City for quite some time now. Dammit- they were soooo dedicated! Only to be foiled by The Shadow! Now the two " Black readership" publications both for the first time ever endorse a white candidate while there is a "Black" candidate in the race. But wait- they each endorse a different white guy!!! This should split the "Black" vote enough that with the other candidates pulling just enough- the leading "Black" candidate due to prevailing predictable "Black" voting patterns- gets the highest polling " Black" candidate into the run-off where the " Chocolate City" denizens awaken to possible losing the franchise; at once rally around, at long last- the " Black" candidate who will then sweep to victory in the general election. Blackgold.

Today, before Rhett and I leave for the polls, we decided that there must be a post on this site and others that we have created. THE FUTURE OF THIS CITY IS IN THE HANDS OF ITS CITIZENS. It is time to turn away the politics of the past, to refuse to vote based on ancestry, on political patronage, on inheritance of positions, or on the many biases that have created this morass in which we now exist. It is time that each and every citizen put aside their individual biases and vote for the future and not the past. We will vote for James Perry, not because we wish to throw away a vote as some people say, but because it is the young determined people like him that are the future of this city. We will do so with pride and hope. Tomorrow many will celebrate but we ask the question is tomorrow's celebration of victory for one candidate rather than another a celebration that we can still hold on to in four years. The future of this city is dependent on your vote FOR A NOUVELLE NEW ORLEANS.
