Father and son honored with national award for rescues during Isaac

NEW ORLEANS -- A father and son who helped rescue more than a hundred people during Hurricane Isaac have been honored with a national award.

Jesse Shaffer III and his son, Jesse Shaffer IV, are from Braithwaite.

They worked together to rescue stranded residents by boat and saved 120 people, plus several animals.

The Shaffers were chosen out of 23 finalists for the Citizen Service Before Self Award.

It is given out by the congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.
