CHALMETTE, La. -- Deputies from the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office were called to Chalmette High School Tuesday morning for a fight between some students.
According to the sheriff's office, no one was injured in the fight, and no students were arrested. The incident was contained by the faculty before deputies arrived at the school.
The fight created a buzz on Twitter, as tweets fueled rumors of a SWAT team called to the school and created concern with parents.
But according to the sheriff's office, it wasn't true. "(C)ontrary to reports on social media, the sheriff’s SWAT team wasn’t called out to the school, the school was never placed on lockdown and faculty members weren’t injured. No weapons were involved either," said a statement from the sheriff's office.
According to the Superintendent Doris Voitier, the students involved in the fight were sent home. Parents are being allowed to pick up their children should they decide to do so.
