NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze in the Sixth Ward Monday morning.

Around 5:24 a.m., a home at Bienville and North Miro streets caught fire, and six connected shotgun houses were burned.

First arriving companies found the one story dwelling fully involved with fire extending through the windows.  A second alarm was immediately struck as firefighters entered through the rear of the structure to make an interior attack. They had to back out as the fire spread rapidly through the common roof and attic.

A third alarm was called to help protect other exposures.

Neighbors said the home has been vacant for some time, but vagrants have been spotted inside.

There's no word on how the blaze started, but 57 firefighters in 21 units had it under control by 6:06 a.m.

There are no reported injuries.
