BEAUMONT, TX - Former Congressman William Jefferson reported to jail to begin serving his 13-year sentence Friday for his 2009 conviction on public corruption charges.

Jefferson was a long-time congressman in New Orleans and his case received national attention after nearly $100,000 in cash was found inside of the freezer in his Washington, D.C. home.

Jefferson will serve his time in a minimum-security facility in Beaumont, Texas.

Jefferson had been allowed to stay out of prison pending his appeal, but was recently ordered to begin serving his time.

He is still expected to appeal the sentence to the U.S. Supreme Court.
