NEW ORLEANS -- Attorneys are again asking for the sentencing of former Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Irvin “Jiff” Hingle to be pushed back.
Hingle's sentencing has been postponed several times since its initial date in March.
Prosecutors noted in court filings that Hingle is currently cooperating with the government on several matters.
They are now asking a judge to schedule the sentencing for next summer.
Hingle pleaded guilty last November to taking bribes from a businessman whose company oversaw construction of the parish jail. Hingle received $30,000 from from crooked businessman Aaron Bennett, the owner of Benetech. Bennett has pleaded guilty to bribery and conspiracy.
Hinlge also improperly used campaign funds for personal use, breaking state campaign finance laws.
