NEW ORLEANS - Dozens of homeless dogs and puppies are getting a second chance to live and be rescued.
Nearly 50 dogs from shelters in LaPlace, Tangipahoa Parish, and Denham Springs, will be spayed, neutered, given complete health exams and vaccinations, and sent to the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area.
Actress Pamela Anderson is paying for all the medical care and transportation which is being arranged by PETA and the Virginia Beach SPCA.
"The local shelters are being really overwhelmed with animals right now because of the people losing their jobs and not necessarily being able to care for their animals anymore," said Teresa Chagrin, a PETA animal care and control specialist.
"People aren't aware, if you have your animals spayed and neutered it would be a lot less stressful on the whole parish and especially the animals. The animals are the ones suffering," said St. John the Baptist Parish Animal Shelter Manager Linda Allen.
Anderson will be in town August 2 with the Virginia animal advocates and The Humane Society of Louisiana, to help load all of the dogs into the transportation vans.
