BATON ROUGE, La. - A 58-year-old Gretna woman won $2 million playing Powerball in a drawing on May 3.
Robin Payne purchased the ticket while in Scott, Louisiana and went to Baton Rouge last week to claim her prize. She matched the first five numbers on the Powerball, but not the red Powerball. The normal $1 million prize was doubled as she purchased the Power Play, and that number was two.
Payne said she would pay off her home with part of the winnings. She said she has played Powerball for a long time and has always taken the Power Play option.
She received $1.4 million after federal and state taxes were withheld. She said she plans to use the winnings to pay off her house. The winning ticket was purchased at RaceTrac Petroleum #381 on Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Scott. The store will receive a selling bonus of $20,000, which is 1 percent of the prize.
The other two $2 million winning tickets from the May 3 Powerball drawing were claimed earlier this week by a Baton Rouge woman.
