METAIRIE, La. - A new phase of the Interstate-10 widening project begins on Tuesday in Metairie.
Drivers traveling from Veterans to Clearview will notice a new lane configuration, which may cause delays.
The shift is part of a $42 million construction project.
More than 160,000 drivers travel the interstate segment daily.
Work began in late 2011 to widen the roadway from three to five lanes in each direction.
It will improve safety and traffic flow on I-10 in Jefferson Parish, officials said.
Crews will shift the westbound traffic lanes slightly to the left to continue widening the roadway.
The right and center lanes of I-10 W between Clearview and Vets will close at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The new lane configuration should be in place by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The Clearview on-ramps to I-10 W will also close as part of the new configuration. Drivers should use the Veterans on-ramp instead.
The Veterans off-ramp will be closed, and the Power exit is the best alternate route.
This work is supposed to wrap up by the end of 2013.
A press conference will be held at noon on Monday to give a more detailed update on the project.
