Jefferson Parish School Board member Mark Morgan said he will testify to a federal grand jury Friday about a post-Katrina clean-up contract.
Morgan’s scheduled appearance comes on the heels of a subpoena served Wednesday by the FBI for documents about an emergency contract with Certified Cleaning and Restoration. The Metairie company cleaned and restored six parish schools in the days after the storm, Morgan said.
Morgan said he is not a target of the investigation and is being brought in because of his role in authorizing the contract four or five days after the storm.
“They were brought to the table by my actions,” Morgan said. “I was one of the few people in the parish right after storm to handle that.”
After CCR cleaned and waterproofed the Yenni Building immediately following the hurricane, Morgan said he lined up the company to do the same for six schools. He said he cleared the emergency contract with the school superintendent and facilities manager.
Morgan said the FBI asked about CCR owner Danny Haag and subcontractors who helped complete the work. Long after the clean-up work, the school board took CCR and its subcontractors to court to dispute a $5 million bill that they thought was excessive. The suit was settled about a year and a half ago, Morgan said.
