UPDATE- After nearly four hours of attempting to open a line of communication with 44 year-old Ashley Shepphard, JPSO negotiators convinced her to surrender without further incident.
Shepphard walked out of her Dodge Avenue home and was taken into custody.
She was placed under arrest and booked with one count each of aggravated assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.
JEFFERSON, La. -- Deputies are working a SWAT roll in Jefferson where a woman has holed herself up inside a home after firing a shot at a relative.
The incident is happening in the 100 block of Dodge Avenue.
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, 44-year-old Ashley Shepherd fired a shot at her sister-in-law in a dispute over a vehicle.
The sister-in-law called deputies just before 8 p.m. She was not shot or injured.
Deputies say the woman is refusing to come out of the house.
Neighbors say they visited Shepherd a month ago. Her home was destroyed inside, and they say she's been troubled for years since her husband's untimely death.
"I grew up playing ball with her kid. She was my first boss at the concession stand down the street at the playground, so I knew her my whole life," said Patrick LeBlanc.
LeBlanc said he's not surprised that the incident is happening.
"Not after what happened a while back with her husband. When they built the house he killed himself, and ever since then she's been on the deep end."
Deputies have evacuated some nearby homes as a precaution.
