NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana was awarded $16 million to better protect the state against a terrorist attack or a natural disaster.
The money is included in the Department of Homeland Security's spending bill.
Part of the money will go to state and local governments to improve emergency preparedness.
It also includes emergency money for new equipment and training to better respond to acts of terrorism and catastrophic events such as hurricanes and floods.
New Orleans will receive funding to improve port security.
