NEW ORLEANS -- The day before Mardi Gras, known in this city as Lundi Gras, is almost as big as Fat Tuesday with revelers dancing to live music along the Mississippi River and many staking out spots early for Monday night's celebrity-studded Orpheus parade.
Rocker Bret Michaels and Grammy-winning singer Cyndi Lauper will lead roughly 30 floats scheduled to roll through the city, and they're both expected to perform at a glitzy ball following the parade.
Lundi Gras also offers a preview of Tuesday's festivities with a ceremonial meeting between the king and queen of the Zulu krewe and Rex, the King of Carnival, and his queen. The occasion is celebrated with live music on stages lining the Mississippi River and revelers in costume. The Rex and Zulu parades roll Tuesday morning.
