NEW ORLEANS - A man was killed and a woman was listed in critical condition after the car they were driving in struck a light pole and guard rail near the highrise Monday around 10:15 a.m.
The NOPD said that a 47-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released, was driving a Lexus when she lost control of the car and struck the metal pole then the concrete guard railing on the I-10 eastbound at the Louisa St. North / Almonaster Blvd. West exit ramp.
Both people were transported to the hospital where the male passenger died.
Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Traffic headed to the east was slowed for several hours as investigators were on the scene.
